Gardener - from Jan 25, 2016 - 1 job for 13 months in NPH Nicaragua.

A unique volunteer opportunity is to work in the orphanage vegetable gardens. Most of the orphanages maintain several different parcels of crops upon which, depending on the season and current needs, a variety of vegetables such as corn, beans, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, peppers, and chiles are grown.

Because almost all of the work is done by hand, from planting to maintaining to harvesting, the volunteer can expect to be involved primarily in manual labor. The volunteer will have the opportunity to work closely with a handful of local workers who maintain the garden as well as one or two youth who are performing their year of service.

The work schedule is Monday through Friday from 7am to 4pm with an hour for lunch.
