Healthcare is one of the most important components to NPH Nicaragua's mission. We are a home to children who need to be treated for minor health issues as well as some that need medication for chronic conditions.
When a child joins our family it is mandatory that they have a full check-up with our doctor. Frequently children come to NPH with parasites, lice and scabies. Some children are undernourished and must be treated for anemia or other nutritional deficiencies. The clinic at the home also takes care of our external children who live in the community and attend school on site.
In addition to medicine, certain medical tests help our doctor diagnose medical conditions in our children, for example to determine whether a sore throat is a bacterial infection or a virus.
Our internal clinic has a doctor’s office, treatment room, pharmacy, therapy room for physical and occupational therapy, isolation room and two rooms where new children stay until the full medical and lab tests are completed. In the same building, but separated by a wall and different entrance, is an office for a psychologist, social worker and chaplain. Our multidisciplinary team has a full-time doctor, two nurses, an occupational therapist (volunteer) and physiotherapist (volunteer).
The right type of medicine and medical tests can help our children excel both inside and outside the home.
